The Lady with the two little dogs...
Image
It’s springtime here in the low country and Folly Beach is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. A gentle sea breeze caresses your face with fragrant salt air. We are reminded of those many days spent walking endless miles of beach in summers past.  The sun glimmers off the water and the surf lulls us into a peaceful state of mind.  As we sit and ponder the magical beauty of this place we recall the many times we saw the lady with the two little dogs. They were frequent visitors and always brightened our time here. Looking down the beach, toward Folly Inlet, you would see them walking north toward the point. Each time it brought a broad smile and lightened hearts. Sometimes the dogs were leashed and others they simply ran free along the water’s edge.  They always had boundless energy and looked to anyone (everyone) to join in their mischief and antics.  Chasing birds, crabs, loose balls or anything the wind whipped down the beach. All the while they kept a constant vigil on “her” as though in need of assurance that she is still there and, indeed, safe. They watch over her as she watches over them. A bond that will not be broken.
Sadly we haven’t seen them recently, but here’s the thing; each time we go to Folly Beach (or any beach for that matter)  we see them. Perhaps it’s more “a feeling” but, nonetheless, they’re still there on the beach. We see them looking seaward and out over the beach, sniffing the salt air with a steady gaze insuring “her” safety and happiness. Steadfast and resolute they stand guard. They live on in our minds. Each time we walk the beach, no matter where, we will fondly remember the time these wonderful little beings frolicked by our side. Their companionship, loyalty and faithful friendship will live in our hearts forever. They will be missed but not forgotten.
Farewell T & L
We love you Em
