We are now into our third week of the refinishing project. All in alll things remain well save for a few little nuances. One; the tradewinds have, uncharacteristically, turned light which leaves the temperatures elevated and the mosquitoes and noseums unfettered. Two; getting volatile liquids (ie. varnish) to Roatan is proving problematic. Our shipment has been at a freight forwarder in Florida since April 16th. We are hopeful that it will be here today. That said; the sanding and prep progresses. All we need is the varnish.
On a related note (mosquitoes); Our visit to Punta Gorda came with a little "after effect". I actually thought I may have contracted Malaria. Turns out I was torn up by mosquitoes while there and didn't really notice it the first twenty four hours. Pat counted twenty eight large bites just on my shoulders. I came down with a low grade fever and the shakes but, fortunately, it was short lived and I was feeling better in a day or so. We have all the proper meds aboard to combat these local deseases so we don't worry too much about it. Malaria is somewhat common here in Honduras especially at sea level. Until the trades return we are living with mosquitoe coils burning every evening. Yes...even "paradise" comes with it's dark side!
As mentioned; We are going down island today to pick up a few supplies and, hopefully, our shipment of varnish. Don, Yvonne and Larry (expats) continue to be very helpful in guiding us locally.
Tonight we are heading to a "full moon party". The expat community has a full moon party each month at someone's home. Tonight its at a beautiful hill side home on the next bight west of here (Caribe Point). These partys are very much like "pot lucks" which we attend frequently while cruising. Everybody brings a dish and their drink of choice. The host provides a main dish, ice etc. Looking forward to it!
That's it for now.....will post new pics tomorrow.
