…some weeks are just more fun than others! Sunday brought the marina gang to the head of the dock (at our small outdoor bar/grille area) for Super Bowl. Open grilled racks of pork ribs, tons of side dishes and ice cold beer made for yet another fantastic “pot luck” gathering. We watched the game in the marina office and had a football pool which provided many laughs throughout the game. Seems the ladies had all the luck (Donna and Sheryl (SV Randy Jo) won the first, second and third quarters and Robin (Windshift) won the big payoff on the fourth quarter). It was a hoot!
A good night’s sleep then up early Monday morning for a day of fishing. Tom (Marina owner) took Robin and Bob (SV Wind Shift) and me out for the day. Miguel (a local fishing Captain) was our guide. It was a rough ride in the 27 foot panga but a blast none the less! We boated two sailfish and a barracuda. We kept the sail I boated as well as the barracuda Bob boated and released the second sail which Tom caught. Here you only need go out, into the Yucatan channel, about 8 miles. On a mild day you can see schools of 50 -100 Sailfish chasing bait fish. This, of course, in the cobalt blue waters!
As you see in the photos Miguel cleans the fish upon return to the dock. We sushi’d some of it and had it along with cold beer at day’s end. It doesn’t get much better (at least for us). We kept a couple steaks and sent the rest of the meat over to Cancun to be smoked. It will back on Thursday and we look forward to more great feasting!
Next on the “activities list” is to get in the water and do some snorkeling. The kids gave me a new “camera mask” and I’m looking forward to taking some underwater photos. Stay tuned….
PS – You might have noticed I’m back to short hair. The pony tail was fun but, in the end, it’s just way too hot to have all that hair. I’m back to my “Mr. Clean” persona!
